Before the British-Swiss company Ziegler was founded in 1878, the Persians sold Europeans only their used carpets. Ziegler was the first foreign company that began to create its designs and tones for wealthy European and American customers.

Although the company itself suffered extensive economic losses during the First World War and was closed in 1934, the designed Ziegler designs remained and they are still sold with great success worldwide.

Currently, these carpets are made in Pakistan. As in the XIX century, yarn is still painted with vegetable paints, various herbs, plants and fruits are used for colouring. Recipes for the manufacture of paints and color combinations are inherited from generation to generation. Carpets made using natural colours are usually in pastel tones. Pile of Ziegler carpets is short but durable.
